The History Behind Tower Of Stone Publishing/Ascap (T.O.S.)
Tower Of Stone
Publishing started in 1987 and was originally a production company
started by Stonewall "Stoneman" Towery. Stoneman created the
company in order to build his own recording facilities and begin to
produce original music in many genre's.
During its years as a production company, Stoneman began to hone his
skills as a producer while he toured with a local gospel band called
the Rhema band. During that time Stoneman taught himself how to
play instruments and how to use recording hardware. His first
studio equipment was anchored by the legendary Tasman 244
Portastudio. It was a big machine that recorded only 4 tracks on
cassette tapes. Stoneman added a variety of hardware and rack
mount gear in order to make the recordings as good as possible
considering the inferior gear. He was heralded by many Publishing
Companies and artists for the great demo's he produced in his semi-pro
studio.
In 1988, Stoneman was awarded his first publishing contract by a small
company in Georgia (Mimic Music/ascap) for four gospel songs Stoneman
had produced and recorded in his studio. Although it was a
landmark accomplishment, the songs were never commercially
released.
Never the less, Stoneman continued to forge ahead until the release of
the Rhema Band Album "Lead'm To The Gateway" in 1992. The
album was marginally successful and thousands were sold at the bands
concerts and peformance venues.
In 1994 Stoneman was hired by the Franchesa Group to manage their two
Publishing companies Andrew Kingman Publishing/BMI and Almaden Valley
Publishing/ASCAP. As the general manager he increased their
catalogs by 80% and improved the quality of their songs by signing
quality songwriters to Publishing Deals. His tenure ended with
the companies in 1996.
It was then that he changed the name of his production company to
Tower Of Stone Publishing and affiliated with ASCAP. It was also
then that he upgraded his hardware to almost all digital applications
and began to explore the new and exciting world of "software
recording". During this time Tower Of Stone Publishing began to
license Stoneman's music to various cable television programs and local
artists who needed original material for their recordings.
Since then Tower Of Stone Publishing has published 36 songs in 9
musical genres. The latest being Stonemans current Gosple Cd "I
Stop And Pray". Other recent releases are Stoneman, Destiny In
Stone (2004) and Stoneman Avenue (2006)
Tower Of Stone is now beginning to sign new songwriters and mentor new
artists from all over the world. 2007 will see the release of two
more Stoneman CD's on T.O.S.'s new label "Heads Up Records" as well as
the release of several CD's by some of Stoneman's up and coming artists.
Since the early days Stoneman's music has won many awards and
international contests including The Unisong International Songwriting
Contest, Song Of The Year and the Billboard Songwriting contest.
He has received awards for 14 songs in 5 musical genre's.
Also, Stoneman went back to college and earned certificates in
Cmmercial Music and Recording arts. He now has a fully digital
studio dubbed "One Man Band Productions" and uses all the latest
recording softwares including Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Reason, Cubase,
Magic, Acid, Abelton and a host of other recording softwares. In
addition to this, he is proficient in Sound Forge, Izotope Ozone,
Fruity Loops, N-Track and Harbal.
